Trump Tariffs on India: What the 25% → 50% Hike Means for Trade, Manufacturers and Consumers

Trump Tariffs on India: What the 25% → 50% Hike Means for Trade, Manufacturers and Consumers In 2025 the U.S. government under President Donald Trump imposed steep “reciprocal” tariffs on Indian imports—initial measures around 25%, later increased in reports to levels reaching 50% for some goods—citing India’s continued purchases of Russian oil and broader concerns about trade barriers. The move revives tensions that began with earlier trade actions (GSP removal in 2019 and prior tariffs on steel/aluminum) and threatens major Indian export sectors (textiles, gems & jewelry, chemicals, electronics and certain machinery). Markets, rating agencies and business groups warn of sizable export losses, supply-chain shifts and political fallout. India–Pakistan War: History, Flashpoints, Water Disputes & Nuclear Risk (2025)

Executive Summary (2025) India and Pakistan have fought four major wars (1947–48, 1965, 1971, 1999) and numerous crises centered on Kashmir and cross-border militancy. A February 2021 LoC ceasefire dramatically reduced daily firing, yet relations remain brittle. Inside Australia’s Billion-Dollar Bid to Challenge China’s Rare Earth Grip (2025)

Executive Summary (August 2025) China still controls ~60–70% of rare earth mining and about 90% of global processing , the chokepoint for EV motors, wind turbines, electronics and defense. Australia is mounting a multi-pronged, billion-dollar push to shift that balance: doubling its federal Critical Minerals Facility to A$4bn , offering a 10% processing tax credit , and co-funding flagship projects like Iluka’s Eneabba refinery in WA and Arafura’s Nolans mine-to-oxide project in the NT. It’s a serious industrial strategy—but cost inflation, price volatility and China’s market power remain formidable hurdles. Reuters IEA Treasury Why This Matters The choke point is processing. China refines ~90% of REEs; even producers elsewhere often ship concentrates to China. Disruptions or export controls ripple across autos, energy, and defense. IEA CSIS Strategic insurance. Diversifying with allied supply (Australia, U.S., EU) reduces exposure to policy shocks and price manipul...
